Drought Tolerant Varieties of Common Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) in Central Afghanistan

چکیده

Legume crops have played a significant role in the historical dietary regime of Afghan peoples. Recently, production common beans has increased on farms relative to other leguminous crops. However, compared with pulse crops, are more prone water stress. To select drought resistant beans, several varieties were assessed field during sequence restricted supplies for two years and local was analyzed 12-years period. The first experiment 2018 five bean under four irrigation regimes. White black long maturation periods climber habits, motley characterized by moderate maturity semi-climber structures, susceptible did not mature well ambient climate conditions. varieties, red pied adapted dry summers; these again 2019. Statistical analyses inferences based 2019 study suggest that adaptable deficit treatments beans. Therefore, considered better option given frequent mid- late-summer droughts occur this region, together generally harsh mountain short growing season central Afghanistan highlands. As second varietal choice, reasonably tolerant our findings.

Drought Tolerance in Wild Plant Populations: The Case of Common Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Reliable estimations of drought tolerance in wild plant populations have proved to be challenging and more accessible alternatives are desirable. With that in mind, an ecological diversity study was conducted based on the geographical origin of 104 wild common bean accessions to estimate drought tolerance in their natural habitats. Our wild population sample covered a range of mesic to very dry...

Diversification and Population Structure in Common Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Wild accessions of crops and landraces are valuable genetic resources for plant breeding and for conserving alleles and gene combinations in planta. The primary genepool of cultivated common beans includes wild accessions of Phaseolus vulgaris. These are of the same species as the domesticates and therefore are easily crossable with cultivated accessions. Molecular marker assessment of wild bea...

Geometry applied to breeding common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris).

The primary components of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) grain yield (W) are the number of pods (X), the number of grains per pod (Y), and the weight of the grains (Z). In 1964, Grafius suggested using geometry in plant breeding; W corresponds to the volume of a parallelepiped with three axes, X, Y, and Z. Because the cube is the largest parallelepiped by volume, maximum yield is obtained whe...

Identification of novel drought-tolerant-associated SNPs in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a leguminous in high demand for human nutrition and a very important agricultural product. Production of common bean is constrained by environmental stresses such as drought. Although conventional plant selection has been used to increase production yield and stress tolerance, drought tolerance selection based on phenotype is complicated by associated phys...

Nutritive Value of Navy Beans (phaseolus Vulgaris).

It has been known since 1920 (Johns & Finks, 1920) that the navy bean is an inferior source of protein for rats. Everson & Heckert (1944) reported that raw navy beans were injurious to rats when given at a 10% protein level. They also reported that autoclaving the beans destroyed the injurious effect. Kakade & Evans (1963a, b) confirmed this report and observed that rats given 10% protein as ra...
